Day 1: Transfer from Kigali to Rusizi Town, Near the Congo Border
Your journey begins at 7:00 AM, when your driver-guide will pick you up from your accommodation in Kigali. From here, you’ll embark on a scenic drive through Rwanda’s beautiful western province. Along the way, you’ll have the option to visit the Kings Palace Museum in Nyanza, where you can learn about Rwanda’s royal history and experience the traditional architecture of the kingdom.
After your visit, you’ll continue your drive, crossing the stunning Nyungwe National Park. This lush rainforest is home to diverse wildlife and offers spectacular views of the countryside. As you drive through the park, take in the beauty of Rwanda’s landscapes before heading to the town of Rusizi, located near the Congo border.
Upon arrival in Rusizi, you’ll check in to your chosen hotel, where you can relax and unwind after the long drive. Enjoy a delicious dinner at the hotel, and spend the night in comfort.

Day 2: Gorilla Trekking in Kahuzi-Biega National Park
On Day 2, you’ll begin the day with an early breakfast at 5:30 AM before heading towards the border with the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). After completing the border crossing and immigration processes, you’ll continue your journey to Kahuzi-Biega National Park, home to the eastern lowland gorillas.
Upon arrival at the park, you will head to the park headquarters for registration and an informative briefing about the gorilla trekking rules and guidelines. The trek to find the gorillas typically takes between 2 to 4 hours, depending on the gorillas’ location and the speed of the group.
Once you locate the gorillas, you will spend an hour observing them in their natural habitat. This is a rare and intimate experience, where you can take photos, learn about the gorillas’ behavior, and marvel at these incredible creatures up close.
After the trek, you will return to the starting point, where you’ll enjoy a well-deserved lunch before beginning your journey back to Kigali. You will arrive in Kigali in the evening, around 8:00 PM, completing your adventure.
