Camping in Nyungwe

Nyungwe National Park is one of the 3 National parks in Rwanda offering a variety of experiences with this rain forest which is one the remaining old natural forest in Africa. Situated in the southern part of the Country, Nyungwe NP hosts a variety of biodiversity including 1,068 recorded plant species, 322 bird species, 75 known mammal species and 13 different primate species. Nyungwe has a range of activities that visitors can enjoy including chimpanzee trekking, canopy walk, colobus monkey trekking, waterfall hike, nature walk among others. Most of these activities start in the morning and clients may be required to sleep in the Park so as to be able to start their trip afresh. Camping in Nyungwe National Park is the only possible way to sleep inside the park and be ready for the activities early in the morning.

Camping in Nyungwe National Park involves sleeping in a tent set on a wooden surface to offer protection from rain and other circumstances. The tents also raid on an elevated surface to protect from unwanted visitors from the Bush. The clients use clean shared toilets and shower rooms. You can choose to have hot or warm water for your shower.

About food when camping in Nyungwe National park, you may choose to bring your packed food, but you may also use the cafeteria and the reception to offer you some drinks, food and snacks.

You may ask yourself why camping in Nyungwe National park. Well, most of the forest activities start very early in the morning and other accommodations out of the park are situated miles away from the park reception where most of the activities start from. For instance, trekking chimpanzees starts at 5:30 in the morning to make sure you see them as they wake up and feed them early in the morning and spend the rest of the day moving in the jungle. If you are staying in Rusizi, one of the closest centers where you find most of the accommodations is 1-hour away from the park reception, in that case, you will need to wake up as early as 3:30 to prepare yourself and depart for the activity at 4:00 AM.

When camping in Nyungwe National Forest, you will experience the wilderness with a cold breath from the forest. You will need to bring with you a sweater and other things that can keep you warm. But the campsite has a fire pit and firewood is offered to experience warmth during a cold evening especially during the rainy season.
