What Makes Rwanda a Unique Destination For Tourism
Rwanda, also known as the country of a thousand hills is a landlocked country situated in the east central Africa bordering Uganda in the north, Tanzania in the east, Burundi in the south and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) in the West. Here is What Makes Rwanda a Unique Destination For Tourism. Rwanda is well known to have had the Genocide of the 20th Century whereby around one million people were only killed in only one hundred days, this is one of the atrocities that the world has known in that century. However, said Rwanda is not only known for Genocide, it is also known to have been able to rebuilt itself and bring again its population to the now one of the first growing economies in Africa.
In its rebirth, tourism is among the sectors that has recorded a flourishing growth. The tourism in Rwanda is mainly based on some unique attractions across the Country. Rwanda is made a unique destination by various attractions but the most coveted being gorilla trekking in the Volcanoes National Park. It is unique in that these endangered species are only found in the great lake region only in Rwanda, Uganda and the DRC. Rwanda is unique in the way it has put much effort into the protection and conservation of the natural forests, National parks in general and the gorillas in particular. Thousands of tourists from all around the world come to visit these apes said to be sharing 98% of their DNA with human beings.
However, tourism in Rwanda is not only about Gorilla trekking. Other attractions that make Rwanda a unique destination includes the game drive in Akagera National Park, the only savanna park in Rwanda, whereby when visiting it, you will be rewarded by a view of the big five animals including lions, Leopards, elephants, rhinoceros and buffalo. All of these are made possible by the rejuvenation of the Park and the reintroduction of Lions and rhinoceros among others that have disappeared from the Park during the liberation war of 1990-1994 and the deforestation of the Park in search for farms for cattle keeping and farming.
Nyungwe National Park is also another attraction that makes Rwanda a unique attraction. This park was declared a National Park in 2004 and accommodates around 13 primate species including chimpanzees, colobus monkeys just to mention a few. This rainforest is also home to 1068 plant species, 140 orchid and 322 bird species as well as 75 mammals. Nyungwe NP has also a canopy which is a 90 meters suspended bridge on top of the trees that provide an opportunity of viewing the forest and its surroundings at a distance.
National Parks are not the only attractions to make Rwanda a unique attraction, Rwanda has other attractions like Museums for the history, art galleries, community inspiring projects, cities and suburbs but most of it is good and people.
